Aboriginal Dot Painting
Objectives:
- Identify Australia on the world map
- Identify Aboriginal artwork
- Understand layering techniques using paint
- Understand the Elements of Art: Shape, Color, and Space
- Understand the Principles of Design: Emphasis, Pattern, Proportion
Vocabulary: Australia, indigenous, Aboriginal art
Materials:
- 2 Sheets of paper
- Pencil
- Tempera paint
- Paint brushes and cotton swabs
Lesson:
- Students paint the entire paper with one or more colors, then let dry.
- While drying, the students sketch an object or design on another paper.
- Once the background is dry, paint the object.
- Using the back of a paintbrush or a q-tip, carefully place dots around the object.
- Once the object is dry, add details.
